Americas Cup, Club Goleta : April –
June 2007
The
32nd Americas cup is the sporting event of the year. For the first
time in its long history, the race for the oldest trophy in sport
will be contested in Europe. Much more than a sailing regatta, the
32nd America’s Cup is a spectacle not to be missed!

Returning
to Europe for the first time in over 150-years, the programme for
the 32nd America's Cup reflects the importance of this occasion.
Alinghi,
a new team from Switzerland, won the 31st America's Cup in Auckland,
NZ in 2003. As the winner of the last event, Alinghi is now the
'Defender' and has selected Valencia on the east coast of Spain
as the venue where it will defend its title in 2007. 11 'Challengers'
from 9 different countries have taken up the fight for the right
to race Alinghi in the 32nd America's Cup Match, the grand final
of the 2007 races.
Whilst
the challenger has been forged in the battles of the Louis Vuitton
Cup, Alinghi has been intensely training and testing on its own
in an effort to build enough speed and strength to retain the America’s
Cup. The 32nd America’s Cup Match is a first to five (best
of nine) series that will test the abilities of the two teams over
a range of conditions. Consistency is the key here and the first
day or two of racing is a critical indication of which team has
the speed to succeed and capture the cup. The America’s Cup
match might be over after five races in a 5 – 0 whitewash
or, as in 1983, it may come down to a nail biting, tactical final
race for glory!
There will be only one on-shore facility within the venue that is
available for the corporate community. This fantastic, purpose-built
structure with air conditioning will be situated waterside on the
edge of the new 500-metre canal leading from the Port America's
Cup to the sea. Club Goleta is a unique programme offering an unrivalled
hospitality experience. For the first time in the history of the
Cup, European companies have the opportunity to invite guests to
witness the world’s greatest and most glamorous sailing event
– no more than a few hours away by plane or train.
For
a majestic and sophisticated sport, the organisers of the event
have developed this very special and exclusive programme so that
every guest will leave Port America’s Cup with memories of
a superb day of sport, sun and sea with warm Spanish hospitality.
